04 May North Carolina Coastal Region: The Edge of Everything
I spent part of yesterday morning, a bit of the afternoon…and even an hour or so last night, exploring the May issue of Our State magazine’s annual Coastal Issue. Those hours invested in reading the articles and pondering the photos made me want to get in the car and head east.
This May 2013 issue has me thinking of the barrier islands. I’m inspired by the photos of the quiet and the quite wild, the rugged beaches and tranquil harbors.
The issue includes stories of coastal pioneers, describes Harkers Island as being “on the edge of everything”, explores the winds on Nag’s Head beach and the bridge connecting mainland North Carolina to Topsail Island.
A feature story on 7 fabled lighthouses has me wondering which is my favorite:
- Cape Lookout
- Oak Island
- Bald Head Island
- Currituck Beach
- Ocracoke
- Bodie Island
- Cape Hatteras
The issue lays out it’s final pages with regional recipes and great destinations for a taste of the North Carolina coastal regions. If you don’t have a copy to enjoy over breakfast or in the hammock, you can view it online.
